Standard keeps to the keys you need every day. Scientific adds the second keypad without moving anything, so the number keys stay where your hand expects them.
The expression is an ordinary text box: type a whole sum, fix a typo in the middle, or paste one in. Enter works it out, Escape clears, and * and / are read as multiply and divide.
MS stores the answer, MR recalls it, and M+ and M− adjust it. Every answer joins the history, where pressing a line drops that answer back into the sum you are building.
Frequently asked questions
How does the percent key work?
It follows the convention of a desk or phone calculator, where a percentage is read against the number it is applied to. 200 + 10% is 220 and 200 − 10% is 180, because the 10% is ten percent of the 200. Everywhere else a percentage is simply a hundredth, so 200 × 10% is 20 and 10% on its own is 0.1.
Does it follow the usual order of operations?
Yes. Brackets are worked out first, then powers, then multiplication, division and remainders, then addition and subtraction. Powers group from the right, so 2^3^2 is 512, and a minus in front of a power applies afterwards, so −2^2 is −4. Add brackets whenever you want a different order.
Are the trigonometry keys in degrees or radians?
Degrees to begin with. Switch to Radians in the bar at the top while Scientific is showing, and the choice is remembered for your next visit. Angles that should land exactly on zero, such as sin(180°), are shown as zero rather than a tiny rounding remnant.
Why does the answer sometimes show as something like 1.234e16?
Numbers larger than a thousand million million, or smaller than a millionth, are shown in scientific notation so they stay readable. Everything in between is shown in full with thousands separators. Copy answer always copies the plain number, without separators, so it can be pasted straight into a spreadsheet.
How accurate is it?
It uses the same double-precision arithmetic as a spreadsheet, which is about fifteen significant digits, and answers are tidied to twelve so that 0.1 + 0.2 reads as 0.3 rather than 0.30000000000000004. Very long chains of operations can still drift in the final digits, as they would anywhere else.
Can I use my keyboard?
Yes. Type digits, brackets and + - * / directly into the expression box, press Enter to work it out and Escape to clear. You can also type function names such as sin(30), log(100) or sqrt(2), and pi for π.
Is my working saved?
The mode, the memory value and the history are kept in this browser so they are still there when you come back, and nothing is uploaded. Clear history empties the list, and MC clears the memory.
