Phones record which way you were holding them. That rotation is applied to the converted photo, so portrait shots do not come out on their side.

What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the photo format Apple devices have used by default since iOS 11. It stores the same picture in roughly half the space of a JPG, which is great on the phone but awkward everywhere else, because many Windows programs, websites, and older apps cannot open one.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Every photo is decoded and re-saved by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and closing the page clears everything.
Should I choose JPG, PNG, or WebP?
Choose JPG for photos you want to share, email, print, or upload anywhere, since it opens on every device. Choose PNG when the picture has transparent areas or must stay pixel-perfect, such as a screenshot. Choose WebP for websites, where it gives the smallest file.
Why is my JPG bigger than the HEIC it came from?
HEIC uses newer compression, so the same photo is usually smaller as HEIC than as JPG. Growing by a third or so is normal. Lowering the quality slider, or choosing WebP instead, brings the size back down.
Is there a limit on how many photos I can convert?
Up to 30 photos at a time, and each one can be up to 40 MB. There are no accounts, watermarks, or daily limits. Very large batches are slower on an older phone, so convert them in smaller groups if the page feels sluggish.
Can I stop my iPhone from making HEIC files in the first place?
Yes. On the iPhone, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG. Photos you already took stay as HEIC, which is what this tool is for.
